The Arts Society Nerja is a non profit making society (Asociación sin ánimo de lucro) but when we find ourselves with an unplanned surplus, we reach out to support other charities, often related to Art.
We have as one of our most important aims to support Charities in order
• to make a difference in people’s lives
• to develop skills and personality
• to heal
• to enjoy and have a great time
• to stimulate young artistic talent to excel.
We are continuing supporting this project where Antonio Guerra gives weekly classes at the school where there are many children from vulnerable families. There is a group of 15 girls and one boy.
In October 2024 the children will perform in the Centro Cultural Nerja to show us what they have learnt.
In October 2023 we held, for the second time, a competition for young talent in Teatro del Carmen in Vélez Málaga. Paula Coronas, Babak Eshraghi and Elena Pisonero, all professional musicians, were our jury. Our aim is to give the children an opportunity to shine on stage.
We donated 9 prizes in 3 age categories. Paula Coronas donated the Paula Coronas prize for the best interpretation of a Spanish composer. The level was incredibly high. We organized two concerts for the winners to be able to shine and gain stage experience in El Molino in Cajiz and in Ateneo in Málaga.
On 30 March 2025 the Third Competitition for Young Talented Musicians will take place. This time we will have 3 prizes: The Arts Society Nerja prizes, the Paula Coronas prize for best interpretation of Spanish music and the Joaquin Rodrigo Prize, donated by the family of this famous Spanish composer, for the best interpretation of his work. We are honoured to count on the collaboration of the famous pianist Paula Coronas and the family of Joaquin Rodrigo.
A part of the profit of the sales of works of art in the Exhibition in February 2024 went to 2 charity projects: Flamenco dance classes for Colegio La Gloria and the Foundation of Ostroh Academy, western Ukraine which supports displaced persons from the east of the Ukraine who have sought shelter at the University. The foundation also helps refugees to resettle in de-occupied and ruined areas of eastern Ukraine.
